How to Prepare Your Body for a Baby?

Is your Body Ready to Conceive?

Planning to start a family is a great thing as this means you are ready to bring new life on this earth. However, you will also need to plan and prepare your body before you try getting pregnant. To make sure your baby has a healthy start in his or her life, you must first prepare your own body so that it is in the best condition to conceive. This will not only enhance your chances of becoming pregnant but also help you to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Preparing your body for a baby naturally is essential to ensure a healthy experience of motherhood.

Preconception Planning

1. Getting Rid of Bad Habits

The first and the most important thing to do as you are getting your body ready to conceive is to get rid of different kinds of bad habits that might be intoxicating your body. If you are into smoking and/or consuming alcohol, then it is important that you get rid of these habits before you get pregnant. Such tendencies not only increase the possibility of an unhealthy baby, but also greatly enhance the chances of miscarriage. The same can be said about taking recreational drugs. While giving up smoking can be a difficult thing to do, you can ask your doctor to guide you to centers that can help you in an effective way to give up smoking. It is best to avoid alcohol completely as it is never possible to know the safety levels of consumption during pregnancy. If you are trying to give up consuming illegal drugs, then you should tell you doctor about it and he or she will guide you on the best ways to go about it.

2. Cleansing and Detoxifying your Body

The human body generally accumulates a lot of toxins from various sources such as improper eating habits, oily or processed foods, chemical pollution, etc. Although the body can remove some of the toxins, a lot of them remain stored within the kidneys, fat cells and liver. When you are pregnant and breastfeeding, your body will use a lot of the fat deposits for sustaining your baby. This means that the toxins may get directly passed on to the baby. Hence you should focus on getting your body completely cleansed and detoxified once you have decided to have a baby.
A good way to detoxify your body is through the ancient method of Panchkarma (part of Ayurveda). It involves five different procedures to get rid of vitiated Doshas or toxins from the body. These are Virechana (Purgation), Vamana (Emesis), Niroohavasti (Decoction enema), Anuvasanavasti (Oil enema) and Nasya (nose medication applied through nostrils).
Make sure you drink healthy water. Stop taking the sugar-loaded packed juice and carbonated drinks.
Instead drink buttermilk, fresh fruit juices, lemon water etc. Limit the intake of caffeine. During pregnancy you should reduce caffeine as much as possible. To prepare yourself for that, you may want to start now.

3. Attaining Healthy Weight

If you are overweight or underweight, it is necessary that you work on attaining a healthy body weight as it will increase your chances of becoming pregnant. A healthy BMI (body mass index) is between 19 and 25. Women who are underweight often have problems with their menstrual cycles. They can miss their periods and find it difficult to conceive. On the other hand, a woman who is overweight can experience certain health problems before and during pregnancy. It is necessary to maintain a balanced healthy diet at all times as this helps in keeping weight problems at bay. An underweight woman will find her periods normalized once the weight issue is addressed.

4. Exercising Regularly

Exercising is a great way to detoxify the body naturally. It promotes circulation and sweating which helps to get rid of bad toxins. Moreover, regular exercising also helps to provide the body with the strength it requires to handle pregnancy. Some of the most effective exercises for pregnancy include swimming, pregnancy yoga, light jogging, dancing and brisk walking.

5. Consulting GP before trying to Conceive

If you are having any kind of health issues or if there is something that you are doubtful about, then you should definitely consult your GP to check if anything is wrong with you. Most medical centers offer preconception care for couples who are looking to have a baby. You should particularly see your doctor if you are having any longstanding chronic health problems like asthma, epilepsy or diabetes. If you have been taking medications or drugs for some time, you may need to consult your doctor on whether you should keep on taking them as you are trying to get pregnant. Conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid problems and mental health issues are needed to be resolved before you conceive a baby.

6. Medical Tests before Conceiving

There are a number of tests that you may need to take to ensure whether your body is fit for conceiving or not. These may include screening tests for sexually transmitted diseases (i.e. HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, hepatitis B), blood tests for detecting conditions like rubella, thalassaemia and sickle cell disease. Blood tests are also recommended for you if you are anemic. The other test that is frequently done in relation to pregnancy is cervical screening.

7. Vaccinations to be Taken Prior to Conceiving

Birth defects or miscarriages are often caused by different kinds of preventable infections. These can be easily avoided by having the right kind of vaccinations. Depending on your specific case, your doctor may be able to tell you which vaccinations would be necessary for you.

8. Supplements Pre-pregnancy

As for supplements, it is always a good idea to take about 400 micrograms of folic acid on a daily basis. This can help to get rid of neural tube defects like spina bifida. You may want to consult your doctor if you take vit A supplements. Vitamin A over the limit is not healthy for baby during pregnancy. Source of Information:

Human beings are often under stress due to the pressures of their day to day lives. However, we are often not aware of how it can affect our inner health and well being. Once you have decided that you want to conceive a baby, it is necessary that you make a conscious effort to stay calm and free of stress. This can help you to maintain your hormonal balance and ensure that you have a healthy pregnancy. Perform yoga and concentration exercises daily so that it helps you to bring down your stress levels.
Your body is creating another life inside you during pregnancy. You need the essential nutrients to create that. Your health preconception and your diet during pregnancy are equally important. With a happy mind and healthy body you can bear a healthy baby.
