How to Stay Healthy and Young Post-pregnancy: The Secret Tips!

When I was pregnant for the first and second time, nothing much was flourishing except my baby bump. There was nothing abnormal about my weight back then. But, my baby bump was pretty noticeable and it resembled a watermelon, a big one! All I put was a 15 KG extra weight during breastfeeding as I was advised by Dr. Shama Kulkarni (Pediatric Dietitian and Lactation Expert) that a new mom should eat fat-rich foods (with a balanced diet) for a healthy baby.
There is nothing to worry about this extra weight. You can shed it soon following few simple tricks. Truly speaking, if something helped me get rid of my extra weight was some fresh and healthy juices. They really worked wonders during my pregnancy and I still count on them in my everyday regime. These juices are not just prolific for slenderizing but they can help you get a robust body and take care of your hair and skin as well. Weight Loss Juices for Indian Mothers

1. Spinach Tomato

Add 1 bowl of spinach leaves and one tomato sliced in 4 pieces to a bowl of boiling water, let the mixture cool down, simply blend it and strain it.

This is bit tangy so, not very difficult to drink. Use a strong blender (I useWonderChef Blender, its small and strong) otherwise, the pulp will be more and nutrients will be lesser in liquid.

2. Lauki/Dudhi/Bottle gourd + Amla/Lemon

Peel lauki, take only soft flesh, remove the inner core which is porous and contains seeds, add the pcs to boiling water in a bowl, rest it and let it cool. When it cools down, add lemon/amla juice. You may use Amla juice from Patanjali (Yes I am a big fan of Patanjali Products) or Fresh Lemon Juice and then blend and strain.

3. Wheatgrass

The best is to grow your own wheat grass in 7 trays, else buy a wheatgrass powder.

4. Lemon Ginger Cucumber

We don’t cook any of these ingredients. Simply peel 2 cucumbers, slice them in small pcs, add small slice of ginger, lemon juice and simply blend and strain.

5. Beetroot + Carrot

Well, here comes something healthy and yummy. Peel and cut one small beetroot and one carrot, add them to boiling water in a bowl, cool it down and then blend and strain. Voila!

6. Amaranth Leaves + Tomato

One of super nutritious Indian green leafy vegetable is Amaranth. Amaranth is called as Cholai, Marsa, Matth and Thotakoora in India. Red Amaranth Leaves are healthier than the greens. 7. French Beans +Carrots + Tomatoes

      Hi Ashi,

      Yes, the tomatoes are rich in antioxidants. Good for skin, heart and stomach. They help absorb nutrients from other vegetables you eat, that is why we add tomatoes while cooking vegetables.
      Cooked tomatoes are healthier than raw ones. The seeds in large amount are not good for health, hence we strain the juice.

    Firstly are these also beneficial if taken during pregnancy?
    Are we supposed to drink all the juices or one juice per day? Could you please let me know the schedule for taking which juice and when?

      Thanks for your comment.
      Yes, The juices are beneficial during pregnancy, a few notes for you here:
      1. Avoid taking Dudhi juice for more than once in a week. While making, use only a small bowl full of pieces of dudhi/bottlegourd. As duchi is one of intense weight loss foods.You can have it more during breastfeeding.
      For you most recommended vegetables for juices are: Spinach/Amaranth/BeetRoot/Carrots/Tomatoes/French Beans
      2. If in case you don’t like the taste of the juices and as you are pregnant, you should not try pushing yourself, so heat the water+veges on medium-low flame for 2-3 mins only and add fresh lemon juice just before drinking. That will make it less bitter and easy to drink.
      3. One juice per day is enough. As you will anyway take the healthy foods in your meal. The aim to take them daily so easy to drink quanity is important. These juices are like tonics to make sure you fulfill the need of daily nutrients intake. This plain form of foods gives us more nutrients compared to Sabji/Curries/Soups.
      4. Usually the weight loss juices are taken empty stomach in morning. but I would advise you to take it 1-2 hrs after your breakfast and minimum 1 hr before your lunch, as weight loss is not your aim. (Please confirm with your doctor once.).
      5. When I was pregnant first time I used to take: Spinach + Tomato + Carrot Juice once in 2 days. Actually variety is recommended.

    I have lost weight too but my belly isn’t going.. it’s still loose and big. What can I do to reduce and tighten it? I am following clean eating and doing moderate exercise. My trainer said we can’t focus on one muscle, after all fat gone, tummy will start reducing.. I have reached that stage but belly is still big..my height is 160cm and weight 54.5kg.

      Its true, the Sagging Tummy is most difficult to tone.
      Depending on the age and skin health it take time to get it toned and tighten.
      If you have reduced weight and you are ready to focus on the abs then the most effective workouts are:
      1. The planks. Do various types of planks.

      4. But remember one most important thing: The abs workouts need very strong knees and back. You must do the joint strengthening workouts too.
      5. After my 2nd delivery when I asked my doctor how to get rid of the loose skin ? She told me to do abs workouts but she also told me that for perfect flat tummy one needs the surgery.
      Doctor wasn’t joking, we can try to tone the abs and tighten the skin but getting rid of all that loose skin on tummy is difficult.
      6. I myself do the intense abs workouts

      Do the exercises without fail everyday day for a month.
      I used to have a workout equipment called Shadow Boxer Belt which helped to tone tummy, Its was amazing. But I could not find it in India to buy again.

    Really very useful tips. I use to have Carrot juice everyday early in the morning before my marriage. i used it to get glowing skin and it worked well. but i never knew that these juices are helpful for weight loss.
    i was so amazed seeing your pics which you posted (pre & post weight loss). i am in weight loss process now and lost 4kgs through following diet.but i cant do any Abs because I have abdominal hernia,right above my naval point.
    suggest me something which helps me out loosing weight fast.

      Thank you.
      In your case you should get advice from a medical practitioner for which exercise is safe for you. Even in case of women having back pain, its difficult to do intense ab workouts.
      ITs very important that you do weight loss exercises safely as the side-effects can cause more weakness.

  7. I sure learned a lot from this post. I had no idea I should be pairing veggies for weight loss juices. I’m glad to know that the nutrients from spinach are absorbed more when taken with tomato. I eat a lot of both so I would probably prefer it in a juice to start with.
